This summer I have been fortunate enough to intern with the Study in Scotland Canada Roadshow planning team – allowing me to combine my love and knowledge of Canada still lingering from my year abroad with my passion for Scotland and its fantastic higher education, which has provided me with so much opportunity – the perfect role!
This year’s Canada Roadshow is one of the biggest yet, with fourteen distinct and diverse Scottish universities participating in the month-long tour across Canada, from Vancouver Island to Ottawa. Representatives from our team will be on-hand to answer any questions about studying in Scotland – from visa applications, teaching methods, scholarships and accommodation. With years of experience, you can rest assure they are well-equipped to provide you with all the information you need and are excited to meet ambitious Canadian students interested in continuing their studies in what has been dubbed ‘the best wee country in the world’!
With the support of dozens of partners across Canada, our team will be attending a variety of graduate and further studies fairs at universities such as McMaster, University of British Columbia and Guelph, Study and Go Abroad Fairs, and independent schools for those interested in undergraduate opportunities. We’ll be the ones with the big map banners of Scotland – easy to spot!
As I send countless emails across the Atlantic, I feel a wave of nostalgia for my time in Toronto and a good cup of Tim Hortons, but I understand the giant leap and courage it takes to move by yourself to a faraway country and start anew. Equally, as students set on making the journey send me questions or enquiries about what to expect, I’m jealous of the opportunity that lies ahead of them. I have made many international friends in Scotland on their year abroad; their one regret? That they didn’t choose to come here full time! Scotland is home to more world class universities per head of population than anywhere else in the world, as well as the highest rate of student satisfaction in teaching quality and graduate employment in the whole of Britain. Beyond education, I guarantee you’ll feel right at home with almost 50,000 international students already attracted to our unique cultural scene, stunning landscapes and state of the art sporting facilities. And don’t forget the famous Scottish hospitality!
Scotland and Canada share a strong history and a close-knit future, and there is no better time to be a part of it.
