Research strengths

The University has a long tradition of conducting research that is economically and socially relevant. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), more than three quarters of the research submitted by the University was judged to be of international quality. RAE ranked the GCU’s research in rehabilitative health sciences top in the UK and its research in the built environment in the top 20 in the UK.

These outstanding performances are backed by international research profiles, including world-class outputs, across a spectrum of subjects in education, history, public policy and media and communications, biomedical sciences, vision sciences and high voltage engineering.

As part of a drive to build on its strengths and meet the research challenges of the coming decades, GCU has invested in its award-winning graduate school and has additionally established cross-disciplinary research institutes focusing on applied health research and society and social justice research to bring together the research excellence of individuals and groups across the University.
